Hanover Public Schools: Counselor's Corner

Mock Interviews

By Amy Hoover

The junior and senior classes have spent the last month creating/refining their resumes in preparation for the March 24th mock interviews.  Mrs. Hoover, school counselor, has worked with these two classes over the last month. Resumes and job applications were worked on for about a week.  After students signed up for two occupations to interview for, their application and resume were sent to the interviewer.  Then the focus turned to the process of interviewing for a job.

One class period was dedicated to the many factors of interviewing.  Topics discussed were dressing for the interview, body language and interview questions.  Students watched a sample interview and then could practice interviewing with each other. Each student was given a packet to help them prepare for the interview.

Ten business professionals will be at Hanover Public School during the morning of March 24th to provide the students with two interviews each.  Each interview will last approximately 15 minutes.  The interviewers will evaluate each student and provide feedback that the students will have access to after the interviews. The goal of these interviews are to help the students become more comfortable with the interviewing process.
