FCCLA Sponsoring Pop Tab Contest
by Vickie Kyner
Mr. Alan Lubert, Community Outreach Manager of Ronald McDonald House Charities in Kansas City, met with Hanover K-8 students on October 20th. After giving those present a little background on Ronald McDonald Houses and how important they are to families with critically ill or injured children, Mr. Lubert showed a video about the Kansas City Ronald McDonald Houses. Last year nearly 2100 families representing 26 different states and 4 different countries stayed at one of the three facilities. When the video was over, the students had lots of questions for Mr. Lubert.
FCCLA committee members, Katlin Hagedorn, Sydney Pralle and Taylor Brummett, gave large tab collection containers to each group -- Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades, 3rd and 4th grades, 5th and 6th grades, and 7th and 8th grades -- and then had a drawing for bags of pop tabs to get each group started.
Shawn Minge and Robert Rut from the Hanover Fire Department presented Mr. Lubert with three 5-gallon buckets of tabs they had collected over the last couple of years. Mr. Lubert was also given the 138 pounds of tabs collected last year by the elementary students. Last year’s winning class was Kindergarten with 63 pounds. They were rewarded with a pizza party. This year’s winning class will be given a movie party.
The committee has placed collection boxes at Crome’s , the Wildcat, Hanover Hospital, Heads or Tails, and Ricky’s Café. Please help their cause by collecting tabs from any pop-the-top container and placing them in one of the collection boxes or give them to the grade of your choice.
When you ‘pull’ for the House That Love Built, you will be helping provide families a home-away-from home during a very stressful time in their lives.
