The weather certainly changed a lot of plans for us last week. Events are still in the process of being rescheduled, but updates will be forthcoming as they are available. You can note that the junior high games originally scheduled at Linn on January 7th have been rescheduled at Linn for February 1st (Monday). The high school games scheduled at Axtell on January 8th have been rescheduled there for February 15th (Monday).
This Friday at 8:30, R5 Productions will present to our 7-12th grade students. The focus of their presentation is to discuss/share information about relevant teenage problems and issues dealing with such things as bullying, substance abuse and/or use, sexting, etc. A number of FCCLA members have heard this group present at a conference and thought R5 Productions should come to our school. FCCLA, FBLA, FFA, NHS, STUCO, and our Hanover Booster Club are sponsoring this assembly. Washington Co. High School and Linn High School also will have similar assemblies with this group.
There is some confusion about when our various level basketball teams play and where. Most of the time, the junior high games played in the HAC (Hanover Attendance Center or high school) gym will follow this order: B-team girls, B-team boys, A-team girls and A-team boys. If we travel to a school where there are two gyms available for use within the school (like Washington Co.), then the A-team girls will play in one gym and be followed by the A-team boys in that gym. In the other gym, the B-team boys will play first and be followed by the B-team girls. At the high school level, everything depends on whether there will be a C-team boys’ game. It is best to call the school to find out as this is often not know at the time of this article’s writing, and things have even changed on game days. When I know about the game order, I will do my best to correctly put the times in the Daily Bulletin.
This week our high school teams play on Tuesday, Jan. 12th at Blue Valley with games beginning at 4:45. Then high school teams play Clifton-Clyde here on the 12th with games beginning at 4:45. And, also on the 12th, our junior high teams will travel to Valley Heights. The girls’ games (B- and then A-team) will be in the Valley Heights’ gym. The boys’ games (B- and then A-team) will be played at the Blue Rapids’ gym.
The TVL tournament begins this Saturday. Watch the school’s Daily Bulletin for more regarding Hanover game times. Initial information will not be available until Wednesday.
Congratulations to Coach Kim Lohse for being selected as the 2009 Midwest Sectional Coach of the Year Award for the sport of Boys Basketball. The Midwest section includes the states of Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) is the official national coaches association. Super job, Coach Lohse! You have a terrific track record. Keep up the good work.
And a note for those with young children: Parents as Teachers (PAT) has a playgroup scheduled here on Saturday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Mrs. Jenny Joonas will be in the high school gym ready to work with those of you with young children who want to have a fun time learning through playtime. There is no cost for this event.
Last week, I mentioned how grateful I was to our janitors and city folks who do such a great job of keeping our sidewalks and roads cleared of snow and ice for us. This week, I want to also include thanks to our terrific bus drivers (All have been with us over 15 years and several over 25!) and the wonderful farmers who help the drivers/district out when our buses have problems. Whether there is snow or ice or mud on the roads, everyone does work together to transport our students safely to school. Your efforts are most appreciated.
‘Til next week.
