Hanover’s Boy’s Basketball team is off to the STATE tournament
again! WOW! What a season we have had. The three top seated teams
in the 1A playoffs all have 25-0 records. Schedule rigor determined
final placement. Hanover takes on Macksville at the Busch-Gross
Coliseum on the Fort Hays State University campus at 8:15 p.m. this
Thursday, March 12. Visit the school website (www.usd223.org ) or
KSHSAA’s (http://www.kshsaa.org/BASKETBALL/bskstate.html) for
additional state tournament brackets.
In terms of planning for this week. Thursday morning there will be
a pep rally for our team and coaches at 9:30 a.m. in the gym.
Parents and community members are invited to attend it and to be a
part of the 10:00 send-off. I am sure the Booster Club has some
special events planned. If you want to be a part of the
festivities, contact Darrin Gerard, Booster Club President.
Parents: If you are taking your students to the game(s) and leaving
before school is out, be sure to send in a written note to me/Barb
(Hanover Public Schools) or to Mr. Rundle (St. John’s) so that your
student is dutifully noted with an excused absence. We must have
this note in writing from you prior to departure. If the boys win,
there will be no school for either Hanover Public School or St.
John’s Catholic on Friday. Perchance we should lose Thursday
evening (Heaven forbid such a thing…); we will have school and
expect students to be in attendance. (If your students do not show
up, they need a note from you or they will be marked with an
unexcused absence.)
The second evening of Parent/Teacher Conferences will be next
Monday, March 16th from 4:00-7:30. Teachers are available to meet
with parents in respective classrooms.
Pick up student progress reports from the front office prior to
seeking out the various teachers for your conferences.
The track season is almost upon us. Both junior high and high
school sign up sheets and initial meetings have taken place already
and practices are underway. Contact Mr. Rut or Mrs. Walling if you
have questions about schedules or practice times. Also, we do have
a golf team this year and students have begun their efforts under
the guidance of Mr. Turner.
The Banda Filarmonica Infantil y Juvenil and our Hanover band
students gave a marvelous concert this past Monday! Thanks to David
Wiggins with Rural Arts Partners for your special part in including
USD 223 in this wonderful multicultural opportunity! The
relationship and network between Mr. Joonas and Mr. Wiggins made
this event a reality. But, it took the efforts of many to handle
the logistics. Thank you to the Hanover Chamber of Commerce for
providing the resources to have Ricky’s Café cater the evening meal
for the Tilcajete/Oaxacan students and sponsors. Thank you to Don
Landoll and Paula Landoll for their help with the lunch meal and
the Marysville sightseeing excursions. The Hollenberg Pony Express
Station was a big hit with the Oaxacans as well, and we thank all
of the wonderful volunteers who opened the center especially for
this tour group. Finally, a huge thank you to the following
families/individuals, not all of which who have students in our
school, who opened their homes to the Oaxacans and sponsors: Don
& Patty Spencer, Todd & Debbie Jueneman, Lance &
Michelle Laurence, Michael & Jane White, Jill Rettig, John
& Joan Hynek, Mark & Evelyn Diederich, Greg & Brenda
Diederich, Richard & Becky Meyer, Clint & Wendy Graff, Alan
& Marie Bruna, Jerry & Mary Lou Richter. Your support is a
continuing reminder of what a great community Hanover is. Thank you
all.
In closing, remember Life Touch Photography comes to take
elementary student pictures on Monday the 16th. Payment is due on
portrait day. Spring break begins March 18th and school resumes on
the 23rd.
Again, GOOD LUCK to the Hanover Basketball team and coaches. TAKE
STATE!
‘Til next week.
