U.S.D. #223 Schools in Top 1,086 in Nation

December 17, 2007

An educational data research business analyzed 18,790 schools from across the nation and ranked them. Schools that were analyzed came from 40 different states. The information can be found under the website for the U.S. News and World Report. The top 1,086 made the cut as the top performers based on their data in three categories.

The first step involved schools that performed better than statistically expected for the average student in their state. They looked at the math and reading state test results. They also factored in the percentage of economically disadvantaged students enrolled at the school to find schools that were performing better than their statistical expectations.

The second step was comparing the results of the least advantaged students (black, Hispanic, and low income) to determine if they were performing better than average for similar students in the state. The proficiency results for math and reading were compared with the statewide results.

Any school that made it through these two steps went onto step 3 to determine the top 100 schools in the nation. This step analyzed their advance placement information.

Hanover and Linn High Schools were named bronze category recipients and are considered in the top 1,086 schools in the nation. The bronze category is considered the honorable mention to the top 100 schools across the nation.

The data came from the 2005-06 school year information and was just released at the end of November. You can find this information at the following website www.usnews.com and then click on education and follow information to the top schools across the nation.

Congratulations to all staff, students, and parents. This is a great accomplishment and something we can continue to strive for in future years. We always say that our students are receiving a great education and this is just another tool that proves it.
