Thank you to all the Hanover Public and St. John parents, grandparents, relatives and community friends that participated in our Kansas Schools Hot Lunch Week.  We had a total of 136 guests during the week of January 22nd through January 26th!

The Hanover High School Cheerleaders sponsored their annual Hanover Lil Cheer camp at halftime of the boy’s game against Frankfort on February 2nd.   They had a total of 52 lil cheerleaders participating!  Also, Carlos Emmanuel, a Hanover senior, was recognized prior to the boy’s game as one of the Shrine Bowl’s 11-man football participants for this summer.  The game will be played at Pittsburg State University and show-cases the top Kansas football players in all classes on July 28th at 7:00pm.

The high school scholars bowl team competed in the TVL tournament on Wednesday, January 25th at Centralia.  They finished with a 2-4 record in pool play but did not make it to the championship rounds.   They also competed at the 1A Regionals competition at Washington County on February 1st against ten other schools.  They finished with a 3-7 record in pool play and did not qualify to the championship rounds.  The scholars bowl students this year that competed at either the TVL or Regionals for Hanover were:  Liam Schroller, Taegan Schwartz, Caleb Martin, Zachary Zarybnicky, and Koby McCubbin.

On Saturday, February 17th Hanover’s elementary school will participate in the annual Washington County Spelling Bee which is being hosted at Hanover beginning at 9:00am.  The top three contestants in grades 6, 7, and 8 will qualify for the spelldown to determine the county champion.  

Each year the University of Kansas honors the top 10 percent of each school in Kansas graduating class. In the past, the students were invited to a banquet sponsored by the University of Kansas.  They have changed the format of these presentations as now the student has a choice of attending one of the banquets that are designated at various spots across the State.  Hanover’s honorees this year are:  Tasha Bruna, daughter of Theresa and Chad Bruna; Rachel Scherling, daughter of Lori and Rick Scherling and Claire Zarybnicky, daughter of  Kathy and Jim Zarybnicky.

Hanover completed their Junior High Basketball season on Monday, January 29th with the BVL tournament.  The girls finished 2nd in the tournament with a 12-2 overall record and the boys finished 1st in the tournament with a perfect 14-0 over-all record.

The 1A Basketball Regionals for Hanover will be at Wakefield High School the week of February 26th through March 3rd.  The 1A, Division I State Basketball Tournament, will be March 7th-10th at Fort Hays State Gross Memorial Coliseum.   Good luck Wildcats!
