“We Challenge, You Succeed”

Our FFA Chapter, under the direction of Mr. Ron Smith, did a fantastic job of celebrating National FFA Week here at Linn High School.  Throughout the week our student body participated in days with themes, guest speakers, games during lunch, a daily trivia contest, the tractor search game, a pie eating contest and a pizza party and movie night.  We would like to thank our chapter for their work in planning the activities and getting everyone involved during the week.  We would also like to thank our presenters for taking time out of their busy week to share with us information about various careers in agriculture!

Mrs. Oehmke and our FCCLA Chapter hosted their Pretty Princess program on Saturday, February 27th.  We had close to 35 young ladies show up for a morning of fun!  The participants were treated to manicures, pedicures and hair styling along with crafts, games and more.  The theme this year was “Frozen” with Elsa, Anna and Olaf.  We would like to thank our chapter members and Mrs. Oehmke for organizing this event and we would like to issue a special thank you to our volunteer hair stylists for the event – Traci Meier, Tammi Heitman, Keri Rogge, and Angie Rogge.

Kindergarten Round-Up is scheduled for April 4th at 7:00 pm.  We have generated a list of those children we know will be of age to attend Kindergarten this fall and information letters will be mailed out to those families in the near future.  However, there is always the chance that we have missed a family in one of our communities so please contact the school to make sure you are on our list for the fall of 2016!  A child must be 5 years of age prior to September 1, 2016 to be eligible to enroll in Kindergarten.

Some very important dates are coming up quickly on our calendar!  The end of the third nine weeks is this Friday.  All grades will be entered and posted by Monday, March 7th, and we will print those out and send mail them out to our parents that week.  Spring Break is only two weeks away for both staff and students.  Spring Break is scheduled for the week of March 14th through March 18th and will then be followed by no school on March 25th (Easter) and March 30th (TVL Art & Inservice).  We just want our parents to be aware of these dates so that child care can be set up if necessary.  Having said all of that it is obvious that we are moving into the final grading period and spring activities which will keep all of us busy from now until May!

Senior Hanna Bott was honored by the University of Kansas Alumni Association as Linn High School’s Honor Scholar for 2016.  The Association honors the top 10% in each graduating class in both Washington and Marshall Counties as well as the other counties in Kansas.  Hanna and her parents were treated to a meal, an awards ceremony, and Hanna was given a dictionary for her efforts over the past four years.  We also found out on that same day that Hanna was selected as the 2A-1A Student Journalist of the Year by the Kansas Scholastic Press Association and earned herself a $500 scholarship for her efforts.  Congratulations!

We will be putting the finishing touches on our MDPT (Multi-Disciplinary Performance Test) testing this week.  These are just one of the required parts of the state assessment program here in Kansas.  We will then enter the State Assessment testing period and will test from March 22st to April 22nd.  These tests are for students in grades 3-8, 10, and 11.  We would ask that you pay close attention to our testing schedule and try not to schedule appointments and other activities on the days when your child is scheduled to take an assessment.  This would make the process run much smoother for everyone.

It is great to be a Bulldog!
